The art of the Renaissance is only somewhat different from the art of the Middle Ages. The Northern Renaissance includes the countries of England, Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia, and France. The Italian Renaissance obviously includes Italy. The art of the Northern Renaissance was more Gothic rather than the Romanesque styles of the Middle Ages. Italy was producing many artists such as Da Vinci and Michaelangelo. France was willing to pay large sums of money to have these artists come up North and make art for the country. Northern and Italian art showed much more of a Gothic theme with new creations. In contrast, the Middle Ages was a time that was still in old school, Romanesque. As for paintings and sculptures, the Middle Ages produced artists who did not even compare to the artists of the Renaissance. Citation:
